The first impact the rush made was making the California economy blossom since many people went to work in the gold fields many more jobs were open. It also hurt the Native Americans since the gold in the water killed the fish they relied on the people scared away game causing many of them to starve. It also brought down the population of the Indians from 150,00 to 30,000. In the defense of the Native Americans they were getting ripped off since it "was" their land.
