Exploiting Economic
Economy in the West
In the west the economy blossomed up after the famous gold rush. One of the many jobs that became popular because of so many people traveling west was being a mountain man. They contributed to the expansion by trading with the settlers coming west and also guiding them threw the untouched land. The next two jobs that were very popular in the west was being a miner or farmer. First for the farmer, the west had very soil land so it opened up to them. This shows by seeing the change in number of farms from 2 million to 6 million on a 45 year span. Next the miner, this is pretty obvious since well the gold rush was there and you could become very rich quick. You can see that many people took this opportunity since 90,000 people came to mine during the gold rush. But with this many people coming to the new area the Native Americans were very frustrated. Since all the people were coming to this new land they scared all the game away. The second thing that made them very frustrated was the fish problem. Since many miners used the water to pan out their gold so they could find the gold it contaminated the water which drove away many fish and mostly salmon. The final huge economic impact that happened in the rest was the new railroads that came in. The railroads provided many jobs since they had to have people make them. It also provided a way for people to get across the country safer and faster. But again there was something wrong with this transcontinental railroad and it was that it was taking land away from the Native Americans. So in many ways the gold rush was a huge blossoming for the wests economy and provided many jobs but every time when they thought everything was good it turned out they were hurting the natives in some way.
